Meet With an Academic Advisor

This is what you should do before meeting with an advisor:

  1. Log into Webadvisor http://portal.chaminade.edu/portal/main.html
    1. If you declared your major: Under academic profile, click on “Program Evaluation” and print it out.  Bring this to your faculty advisor.
    2. If you have not declared your major or if you are a new transfer student: Under academic profile, click on “Program evaluation”; then look for “what if I change my program of study” and choose what you intend to pursue a degree in. Then print this out. You can print this out for as many potential majors as you wish. Once you have done this, then you are prepared to meet with an academic advisor.

  2. Special note to transfer students: You must make sure that *official* transcripts have been sent from *every* school you have attended, directly from their records office to our records office.

  3. Customizing your own 4 year plan
    1. Get a blank 4 year plan here.
    2. Use your major 4 year plan and/or your program evaluation as a guide to create a custom plan. Here are things to consider when customizing your 4 year plan.
      1. What classes are ONLY offered in the Spring of Fall
      2. What prerequisite courses do you still need to take or repeat?
      3. Are you going to take summer classes?
      4. As a general rule of thumb:
        1. Start by plotting out all prerequisite courses first
        2. Then plot major requirements that are only offered once a year (Fall or Spring)
        3. Then plot other major requirements
        4. Plug in the General Education and “free” elective requirements where it fits (including Summer if necessary)

  4. Create your schedule
    1. Use the customized 4 year plan and look at the courses you need to take under the term you are registering for.  If the courses are not offered that term, check to see what other courses are available.

  5. Updating your customized 4 year plan
    1. You should update your 4 year plan every semester to make sure you are on the right track

**If you have officially declared a major, meet with your faculty advisor. If not, meet with an advisor in Academic Advising.
