Dr. Edna Magpantay-Monroe, EdD, APRN is an associate professor and clinical coordinator for the Chaminade School of Nursing. She was born in the Philippines and later immigrated to Chicago, Illinois. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from University of Illinois at Chicago, a Master of Science (MS) Primary Care Adult Nurse Practitioner from University of Maryland at Baltimore and a Doctoral degree in Education (EdD) with concentration in Educational Leadership from University of Phoenix online. She is licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) and as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) in the State of Hawaii. She has been a nurse for 25 years, with formal teaching experience for 20 years, and has practiced in several areas of nursing including intermediate care, medical/surgical, mental health, community health, home health, utilization management, case management, worker's compensation, call centers, and nursing administration.
Dr. Monroe has been with Chaminade since July 2011 helping to develop clinical partnerships. In Fall 2011, she served as a faculty mentor for groups of students who presented work at Na Liko Naiauao. Dr. Monroe helped coordinate service-learning for the NUR 290 class, an oral history project with student interviews of elders. Dr Monroe is also a co-adviser for the Student Nurse Club.
