Post 9/11 GI Bill

Please read carefully the information provided on the GI Bill website (www.gibill.va.gov) under "Education Benefits." On-sight forms (VA Form 22-1990) are provided for on-line enrollment. A Certificate of Eligibility will be sent to the applicant explaining benefits and the percentage of eligibility. A copy of that certificate should be presented to the VA Certification Office to be placed in the student file. Benefits will include an annual national cap of $17,500 for Tuition/Fees, housing at the rate of a "Rank E-5 with dependents" for the state of Hawaii, and a Books/Supplies stipend of $1,000 per year. [Amounts indicated are based on 100% eligibility and become proportional at lower eligibilities.]

Yellow Ribbon Program

(This program was passed by Congress and attached to the Post 9/11 GI Bill.)

Eligibility

  1. VA Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33) eligibility is at the maximum benefit rate of 100%. Non-Active Duty status. (Active Duty members are not eligible for this program, as they are already receiving tuition, fees and housing coverage from the VA and/or DOD.)
  2. Acceptance to an undergraduate degree program in Chaminade University's day program.
  3. The Yellow Ribbon Program will automatically kick in when the Annual National Cap is exceeded.

Entitlement

If you are the spouse, daughter/son of a person in a branch of the military service who has educational benefits under either the Montgomery GI Bill (Chapter 30) or the Post 9/11 GI Bill (Chapter 33), the veteran may qualify to transfer all or part of his/her benefits to you. It is a two-step process:

  1. The veteran obtains authorization from his/her Education Officer to give the entitlement to a spouse and/or children
  2. The recipient(s) must apply to receive it. Use the GI Bill website (www.gibill.va.gov) and complete the VA FORM 22-1990E online.
