Financial Aid for Graduate Students

Aid Availability

Graduate students at Chaminade can receive:

  • Loans (Federal Stafford Loans for graduates)
  • External Scholarships

(We do not provide institutional aid to graduate students.)

Eligibility

In general, you can apply for financial aid if you are, or will be, a classified student at CUH, a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, maintain satisfactory academic progress, have not defaulted on a prior student loan or owe a refund on a previous educational grant, and have registered with the selective service (applies to U.S. males ages 18-25). Other qualifications such as financial need, enrollment status, and scholastic ability may be applicable for certain types of aid programs.

NOTE: These basic requirements pertain to graduate Federal Stafford Loans.

Process

The sooner you file the more likely you will be considered for assistance. After your FAFSA application has been reviewed, Chaminade will officially notify you of your eligibility. If proven eligible, you will receive an official award letter which will advise you of the terms of your financial aid and when it will become available.

Notice: Changes Regarding Student And Parent Loans

If you will be taking out a loan for college, we would like to inform you that recently enacted federal legislation has made significant changes to loan programs for college students and arents. This legislation will impact all students and families that will take out loans for a college education. See More Information

FFELP replaced by DSL: The Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP), the system of private lending guaranteed by the federal government used by many institutions, including Chaminade University of Honolulu (CUH), will cease originating new loans beginning with the 2010-2011 year.

Loans will now be borrowed through the government rather than a private lender. The program is called the Federal Direct Student Loan (DSL). Chaminade will try to make the transition as smooth as we can for families and students impacted by this change.
