To Get Financial Aid, File a FAFSA Every Year

Financial Aid Availability, Eligibility

Availability
Adult evening and online students may be able to receive:

• Pell Grants
• FSEOG
• Federal Loans
• Private Alternative Loans

Chaminade does not provide institutional aid or scholarships to adult evening and online students.

Eligibility

You are eligible to apply for and receive financial aid if you are, or will be:

• A high school graduate and be able to provide official documentation
• a classified student at CUH
• a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
• have registered with the selective service (applies to U.S. males ages 18-25)
• maintaining satisfactory academic progress
• have not been convicted of a drug offense during the time you are enrolled and receiving financial aid
• have not defaulted on a prior student loan or owe a refund on a previous educational grant

Other qualifications such as financial need, enrollment status, and scholastic ability may be applicable for certain types of aid programs.

Financial Aid Process

1. Begin the Process

• Apply to the Chaminade AEOP program. Please note, it is important that we have your social security number in order to process your financial aid.

2. Have Documentation Sent

• To be eligible for financial aid you must provide proof of high school graduation. Make arrangements for your required documents to be sent to the A.E.O.P. Office at: Adult Evening and Online Program Office, Chaminade University, 3140 Waialae Ave., Honolulu HI 96816.
  • If you are a first-year student you must arrange to have your high school send the A.E.O.P. office your official high school transcript.
  • If you are a transfer, you must make arrangements with previous institutions you have attended to send the A.E.O.P. office your official transcripts.

3. File the FAFSA

• Complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) as soon as possible. The FAFSA is your application for financial aid.

The sooner you file the FAFSA more likely you will be considered for assistance. The FAFSA can be started after January 1. After your FAFSA application has been reviewed, Chaminade will officially notify you of your eligibility.

5. Review Your Award

If you are eligible for financial aid, the Financial Aid office will assemble your package and will post your award letter online in WebAdvisor. With your Chaminade ID number, you can access your award online:

• Login to WebAdvisor
• More Information about your award including terms and definitions.
• Review Cost of Attendance for the AEOP program.

6. Accepting Your Award

Students may use the online accept/reject financial aid form in WebAdvisor to accept full or partial award amounts or to fully reject an award. You can also contact your counselor in the Financial Aid Office if you would like to discuss your financial aid options before making a decision.

7. Payment Plan

• Contact the Business Office at (808) 735-4713 for details of the AEOP tuition payment plan if you require a monthly payment plan.

Continuing Students: About Renewing Aid

Current students need to re-apply for aid each year:

• Each year, complete the FAFSA between January 1 and March 1
• You must maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress to continue receiving financial aid and stay eligible (see requirements above.)

• Be sure to accept your award and see other information below about renewing loans.

To renew a federal student loan:
Be sure to accept your loan: Students who have applied for financial aid after their first academic year and have been issued an award letter must contact their financial aid counselor to notify them of the value of the loan they would like to accept (all or partial). Students do not need to resubmit any additional forms such as Master Promissory Notes or Entrance Interviews.

To renew an Alternative Loan:
Students who are receiving an Alternative loan must reapply for their loan every year. Just like the PLUS loan, alternative loans are credit approved loans, so they are not guaranteed each year. Students receiving an alternative loan must complete an application with their preferred vendor.

To renew a Parent PLUS loan:
PLUS Loans must be renewed every year. Parents/students must apply for the PLUS loan and be approved to receive funds. Approval for prior years does not guarantee PLUS loan funding will be approved each year. Loan recipients can complete the PLUS loan application at StudentLoans.gov.
