Interested in a biology major? A biology degree from Chaminade can be the starting point for a wealth of career options in scientific and technical areas, research, health care, and education. This program is designed to fulfill the needs of students who wish to study in the diverse areas of biology, zoology, botany, microbiology, marine biology, science education, pre-professional health studies, and biomedical-health sciences.
Hawaii is an exciting, stimulating place to study life sciences. The remarkable natural environment of Hawaii attracts world-class researchers from all over the globe. Close by campus, there are marine and other science research facilities, thriving biotechnology companies, leading hospitals and medical facilities, and the respected John A. Burns School of Medicine. Chaminade works to get students actively involved in the specialty they are interested in, through internships, research, and other learning opportunities. We are conveniently located in Honolulu in the hub of this diversified scientific community.
Chaminade is a small school, with a dedicated science faculty. We try to assess the student's strengths, and help them choose a career path appropriate to their capabilities and potential. Students have ample opportunity for individual faculty attention and mentoring.
Everybody gets to know everybody on campus and in the labs. Even though the program is intense, there is a supportive, family atmosphere.
Our faculty seeks out and promotes opportunities for students to achieve their potential. Research opportunities include projects conducted in Chaminade’s newly remodeled, state of the art labs, or at U. H. Manoa laboratories or John A. Burns School of Medicine. During the summer, many Chaminade biology students are on the move, attending internships and enrichment programs at world-renowned institutions, including recent programs at Cornell, University of Washington, and UCLA.
As a result, undergraduates have co-authored published papers, made presentations at national research conferences, or have received other notable awards.
