Borrowing

Who can borrow library material?
Chaminade students (including accelerated and online programs), faculty and staff may borrow material from Sullivan Family Library.

How do I get a library card?
The Chaminade ID card is used for borrowing library material. Students may request a Chaminade ID card from the Office of the Dean of Students in Henry Hall 223.

Can library material be checked out of the library?
Most of the library collection may be checked out of the library and renewed once. Some materials are restricted to library use, such as magazines, newspapers and catalogs and some course reserve material. The reference collection on the first floor is also restricted to library use. This collection includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, atlases and other quick reference tools. Computers

What do I need to do to use the library computers?
The login and password for the library computers is the same as the Web Portal access that you use to register and check your grades. See the login instructions on the Web Portal page for more information on how to login.

What kind of software is available on the library computers?
Adobe Photoshop, Visio, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Access etc.) and other software are available through the Chaminade computer network login. Internet access is also available.

Am I allowed to chat or play games on the computers?
Chatting or playing games is not allowed on library computers which are available for academic use.

How do I get more print credits?
New Chaminade users automatically get print credits. Extra computer print credits may be purchased at the computer lab ($5.00 for 100 pages). Please allow 24 hours to 3 days for processing of new print credits.

Is wireless access available for my laptop?
Wireless network access is currently available in Sullivan Family Library only on the main floor. To learn more, see the Wireless FAQ or make an appointment for assistance at the Help Desk in the library.

All the library computers are in use. What are my options?
There are 40 computers in the library computer lab which has academic use priority. You can also borrow a library laptop for three hour use in the library. You must have your Chaminade ID card to borrow a laptop.

Online Resources

Does the library have access to any online databases?
Sullivan Family Library is a member of the Hawaii Library Consortium which subscribes to EBSCOhost research databases. Other subscription databases include ProQuest Criminal Justice Periodicals Index, Facts on File, Gale Literature Resource Center, Value Line and more. Many of these databases provide full text coverage. See the periodical indexes and databases section for a database title list and other information.

We also have online books available from the online books page. Some are available to Chaminade users only because the library subscribes to these collections. Ebrary Academic Complete is available off campus through the Web Portal.

How do I access the library online subscription databases?
From on campus, periodical indexes and databases may be accessed through the periodical section of this site. Off-campus access to subscription databases is available to Chaminade students, faculty and staff through the Web Portal. Login to the Web Portal and click on the Online Services tab. Look for the database in the right-hand column under Research Databases. If you have a Chaminade WebCT account, passwords are available from the myWebCT page. Click on the Sullivan Family Library Electronic Resources link under Institutional Bookmarks.

Reference

Can I get assistance in my research?
Librarians are available to Chaminade students, faculty and staff for research assistance. They can provide guidance in narrowing a topic search and in finding resources for research papers. Librarian reference desk hours are available on the library hours page.

I don't know how to use the library catalog or the online databases. Can I get help?
The librarians will provide assistance in the use of library resources. Guidesheets are also available with instructions on a specific resource (e.g. Education databases). Chaminade faculty may also request library instruction for their classes. Contact the librarians for more information.
