MEETING OF THE MARIANIST EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATES
September 6, 2005, 12:40 – 1:40 P.M.
Mike Fassiotto and Grissel Benitez-Hodge were absent.
Val Coleman provided the lunch.
We spent some time planning the visit of John Carr, the Secretary for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, to CUH. He has agreed to come the week after Thanksgiving. Tentatively, we have scheduled a dinner at Sue’s with the MEA’s as guests for Sunday (Bro. Jerry will check with Sue about this possibility.); a meeting with the faculty on Monday at noon in the Ching center (Mr.Dave Coleman will work on this); a mini-workshop for the PLC and the Deans on Tuesday from 1 to 5 P.M. at a local hotel, followed by dinner (Bro. Jerry will make the arrangements and Dave and others will work on the content.). Bro. Jerry will see about lodging for Mr. Carr at Kieffer. Mr. Carr’s theme for these talks is “Catholic Social Thought in the Curriculum.”
We discussed what should be the expected outcome of Mr. Carr’s talks. We do not expect any dramatic conversions to the “Catholic culture,” however, we believe these talks will move people along in the right direction and strengthen the Catholic tone of our school.
Dave will check with Bro. Bernie about using some time to discuss the Catholic Intellectual Tradition at the January faculty retreat.
The last portion of the meeting was spent discussing the conclusions we reached after our June workshop in Dayton.
Our next meeting will be with Bro. Ray Fitz on Tuesday evening, September 20, at Marianist Hall: Mass at 5, Cocktails at 5:30, Dinner at 6, Meeting at 6:45. You may bring your spouse; just let Bro. Jerry know ahead of time, so he can inform the cook.
