August 13, 2007, 7:15 – 8:15 P.M.
Marianist Hall

Members Present: Dave Anderson, Dave Coleman, Val Coleman, Kay Stone, Mike Fassiotto, Grissel Benitez Hodge, Patti Lee Robinson, Curtis Washburn, Larry Osborne, Yukio Ozaki, Bro. Frank Damm, and Bro. Jerry Bommer.

Fr. Jim Bartlett, guest.

Mike Fassiotto presented a plan for the orientation of new faculty, both full time and adjunct, to the mission of Chaminade and the Marianist charism (Attachment 1). This is tentatively planned for a Saturday morning and in addition to the orientations that are already scheduled. This meeting would be by invitation of the President. Present faculty could come if they wished. As we develop this program, it could be expanded to optional fall and spring meetings of the present faculty.

A variation of this program could be presented to members of the staff on their staff retreat days. Grissel brought some ideas from the staff development program used at the University of Dayton. Apparently this program was developed in large measure by Carol Ramey, Director of NACMS. Bro. Jerry will contact her for more details. Possibly she can come to CUH to present the MEAs with a program on orientation.

Bro. Jerry will consult President Wesselkamper about the above possibilities.

David Coleman has a commitment from Andy and Mary Lynne Hill to present a workshop to the MEAs this October on practical ways to enhance the mission at CUH. David will inform the Hills of the dates we proposed for this workshop: October 12 and 13 with October 19 and 20 as an alternate choice.

Bro. Jerry will look into the possibility of a presentation by Fr. Joseph Hartzler on the last weekend of January 2008. Fr. Joe is an articulate speaker on Chaminade’s mission in the modern academic world.

David Coleman and Kay Stone will work with Bro. Jerry in creating a commitment ceremony for the new MEA members scheduled for this October 1 at noon in the Mystical Rose Oratory. This ceremony will include a recommitment pledge by the MEAs who have already made their commitment. The program will be based in large measure on last year’s ceremony.

John Carr’s visit to Hawaii is scheduled for mid-January 2008. No details for this visit have been developed at this time.

Al Lum’s presentation of Bro. Bertram’s photos is slated for a spring activity.

The slide show, “Footsteps of Fr. Chaminade,” is put on hold, awaiting the development of a summer class being created by Fr. Bernard Lee.
