MARIANIST EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATES
Meeting on September 11, 2007, 7 to 7:45 P.M.
Members Present: Barb Belle, Dave and Val Coleman, Bro. Frank Damm, Mike Fassiotto, Grissel Benitez-Hodge, Sharon LePage, Kay Stone, Curtis Washburn, Larry Osborne
Bro. Jerry distributed a recent article from America: “Educating for a Living Faith” by James J. DiGiacomo. Though written for high schools, its description of the students we want to produce seems very accurate.
Dave Coleman is organizing the Hill’s workshop for Friday evening, October 19, and Saturday, October 20. If possible, please keep that time free. Dave will be sending out a bulletin asking for volunteers to handle the various chores connected with presenting this workshop. Though the Hills have created a full program, if you have a topic you would want them to include, inform Dave and he will pass it along to the Hills. Please send to Bro. Jerry the names of potential MEAs that could be invited to this workshop.
Mike Fassiotto distributed the program for orientating new teachers to the Marianist charism. This will happen on Saturday morning, 9 to 11, October 13. Bro. Jerry will send the invitations out on Wednesday, September 12.
Bro. Jerry said that Carol Ramey, the Director of the North American Center for Marianist Studies, has a good program for staff orientation and would be willing to come out probably in January to talk about that or to talk about the Marianist mission as she understands it.
Dave Coleman and Kay Stone will be creating a commitment prayer service for noon on Monday, October 1.
Our guest, Fr. Jim Fitz, the Assistant Provincial for the Marianist Province of the U.S., visited with us. He spoke of his love for the Marianist Charism and how it is transformative for individuals as well as communities. He encouraged the MEAs to be the “leaven” wherever their responsibilities take them within the University community.
