MEETING OF THE MARIANIST EDUCATIONAL ASSOCIATES

February 23, 2009 6:45 to 8 pm Marianist Hall

Members Present: Barb Belle, Venus Ituralde, Val Coleman, Mike Fassiotto, Bro. Frank Damm, Kay Stone, Sharon LePage, Yukio Ozaki, Curt Washburn, Kapono Ryan, Fr. Tim Eden, Bro. Jerry Bommer.

Mike Fassiotto led us in an evaluation of the adjunct’s meeting of Saturday morning, February 14th. The nine adjuncts that came liked the meeting and the format. If possible, handouts seemed helpful. Some hoped there would be more of these gatherings. These adjuncts will be invited to the talk given by Fr. Heft on April 2. Thank you Mike for organizing this event.

Barb Belle reported on the Marianist Moments Project. Two more essays need to be turned in before Barb can start publishing them. Barb will send out examples of what has already been turned in to encourage others to write their personal experience of a Marianist characteristic making a difference in their lives.

Bro. Jerry handed out a description of MUM for this June. Some hope the benefits of an “old” family type MUM will not be lost. Maybe that type of MUM could be enjoyed every third year. Bro. Jerry provided ballots on which each Associate can indicate the four Associates he/she would like to have represent them at MUM ballots on which each Associate can indicate the four Associates he/she would like to have represent them at MUM this year. Those chosen will create a report due by April 15 about the operation of our MEAs on the Chaminade campus. This report along with similar reports from the other two universities will be distributed to all the delegates of the June 2009 Marianist Universities Meeting prior to their meeting.

Dan Richter described the Marianist Volunteer Program and asked the MEAs to encourage their students to consider joining the program for a year in the U.S. or two years in Africa. Students have to be twenty-one years old. Dan will be here until Wednesday evening, February 25. His cell phone number is 314 922-2421.
