HONOLULU—November 16, 2007—Chaminade University has been awarded $124,000 in scholarship funding for students. Ranging in value from $2,000 to $60,000, the gifts were designated for the following scholarship funds:

Leo M. Shortino Family Foundation Scholarship
Chaminade received a $60,000 annual scholarship grant from the Leo M. Shortino Family Foundation to support undergraduate students of Hispanic descent from California. The foundation is based in California.

Luis Zabala Endowed Scholarship Fund
Chaminade Board of Regents member J. Luis Zabala made a $25,000 gift to the Luis Zabala Endowed scholarship Fund. His recent gift increases the fund to a total of $45,000. A native San Franciscan, Zabala is president of Zabala Vineyards in California and was elected to the University’s Board of Regents in 2006.

The Herbert and Phyllis Weaver Scholarship Fund
Phyllis Weaver presented Chaminade with a $25,000 endowment to establish the Herbert and Phyllis Weaver Scholarship Fund. The fund is named after Weaver and her late husband Herbert, a university psychology professor for more than 30 years.

Antone J. & Mary C. Lopez Endowed Scholarship
Chaminade received a $5,000 gift from the Lopez family for the Antone J. & Mary C. Lopez Endowed Scholarship, which supports undergraduate students of Portuguese ancestry from Hawaii. The Lopez family also presented the University with another $5,000 for unrestricted use towards Chaminade’s general scholarship fund.

Peggy and Keith Chock Family Scholarship for Student-Athletes
Peggy and Keith Chock awarded Chaminade $2,000 for the Peggy and Keith Chock Family Scholarship for Student-Athletes. Established in 2006, the annual scholarship provides financial assistance to an undergraduate student participating in intercollegiate athletics.

Chaminade Hogan Entrepreneurial Program Scholarship
Chaminade received $2,000 in scholarship funding from local businessman Vaughn Vasconcellos for its Hogan Entrepreneurial Program, which prepares students for entrepreneurial careers in the business, government and non-profit sectors. Vasconcellos serves on the advisory board for the Hogan program and is president and CEO of Akimeka, LLC.
