HONOLULU—March 20, 2008— Chaminade University’s Performing Arts Department will present Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe’s musical Brigadoon at 7:30 p.m. on April 17, 18 and 19, and at 4 p.m. on April 20 in the Mamiya Theatre, 3140 Waialae Avenue, Honolulu, HI 96816. Brigadoon, the first big hit for the team of Lerner and Loewe, revolves around two American tourists, Tommy Albright and Jeff Douglas, who stumble upon an enchanted, misty Scottish town. Albright soon falls in love with Fiona MacLaren and then discovers this mysterious little town reawakens for only one day once in every hundred years. Show tunes include Almost Like Being in Love, The Heather on the Hill, There but for You Go I, Come to Me, Bend to Me, My Mother's Wedding Day, I'll Go Home with Bonnie Jean and Waitin' for My Dearie.
Directed by Bro. Gary Morris with Timothy Carney as musical director and Brad Powell as choreographer, Brigadoon will be a hit for those looking for a romantic and magical fantasy filled with memorable music and dance.
BRO. GARY MORRIS, SM, a native San Franciscan, has been directing plays for more than 35 years and has nearly 100 plays to his credit. He is part of a team invited to Chaminade University to develop performing arts classes and programs on campus. This is his fifth year at Chaminade as associate professor of theater and English.
TIMOTHY CARNEY serves as associate professor of music at Chaminade University, where he teaches courses in Great Composers, Musical Theatre, and conducts the Chaminade Chorus. He is also music director of the Hawaii Vocal Arts Ensemble, a select choral group in residence at Chaminade.
BRAD POWELL is an award winning director, choreographer, dancer and actor. For 21 years, he was the executive producer/writer for educational television. He has acted, directed and choreographed at all of the major theatres in Hawaii as well as on the mainland, in Germany, Samoa, Portugal, Japan and Norway. Powell has had the pleasure of working with Bro. Gary Morris on several productions, including last year’s Pirates of Penzance.
