Chaminade Celebrates Founders
Three Members of University Honored

HONOLULU—January 23, 2009—Chaminade University recently celebrated the lives of its founders, Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, who is the university’s namesake and inspired the unique spirit that is distinctly Marianist; Adele de Batz de Trenquelleon, who co-founded the Marianist Sisters with Blessed Chaminade; and Marie Therese de Lamourous, who was deeply involved in assisting Chaminade in the establishment of the many faith communities in and around Bordeaux, France after the French Revolution. In honor of these three founders, the university selected three members of its community for its 2009 Founders Day Awards. “Many faculty, staff, and students in the Chaminade Ohana carry the vital spirit our three founders represent, but we wanted to single out three individuals who have been exemplary examples of this spirit,” said Bro. Jerome Bommer, university rector.
