Chaminade Community Serve Together in National Day of Action

WHO:  Chaminade University students, staff and faculty

WHAT: Chaminade  students, faculty and staff as a community will join thousands of communities around the nation for a “Day of Action,”  to demonstrate the impact that service has—and could have—upon the country and the power citizens have to create large scale change. After project completions, a debriefing reflection time with lunch will follow.

WHEN: Saturday, Sept. 27, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
(Meet at 8:45 a.m. at Chaminade) 

WHERE: Nine planned projects Chaminade volunteers will participate in as follows:

  • Palolo Chinese Home: environmental work (landscaping, gardening, etc.)
  • Collaborative service with the inclusive recreation (I-Rec) program:
    Work with disabled participants to make food donations for homeless shelters (campus cafeteria)
  • Car wash to raise funds for charity (on campus)
  • Next Step Homeless Shelter: Teach tech skills and help Next Step clients to share their stories/dance/songs, using YouTube/podcasting. The shelter will be open on Saturday for families who sign up to participate in this program.
  • PaloloElementary School Beautification: Painting hopscotch boards, environmental work, etc.
  • Palolo stream clean-up: (Chaminade and Palolo area), sidewalk drain stenciling and graffiti removal
  • Letters of support to the troops: Create cards & letters for current CUH students & alums currently deployed.
  • Palolo Stream Cleanup (Palolo Homes’ area): Environmental work (collaboration with Adopt-an-Ahupua'a, Palolo Homes' residents, UHM, and KCC).
  • KaimukiHigh School Ohana's TAG (Totally Against Graffiti) Program: Help with graffiti removal.
