Earth Day Event Looks at Different Faith and Cultural Views on Water asking is it Sacred or Profane?

Chaminade University of Honolulu's Environmental Studies Program and the Hawai'i Association of International Buddhists - Women and Environment Program will sponsor a special Earth Day event at Chaminade University in Ching Conference Center (Eiben Hall--second floor) on Friday, April 22, from 7-9 p.m. The event will bring together panelists of various spiritual, environmental and cultural experiences who will respond to an opening video "Water: Sacred and Profane" produced by Foundation for Global Community.

Panelists include: Bro. Jim Fawcett, S.M. Marianist Brother, Chaminade University; Rev. Lama Karma Rinchen, Kagyu Thegchen Ling, Tibetan Monastery; and Dr. Lynette Cruz, Anthropology Program Hawaii Pacific University; and moderated by Father Halbert Weidner from Holy Trinity Church. The audience will also be invited into the discussion.

Free and open to the public, the event is organized by Dr. Les Sponsel, Ecological Anthropology Program, University of Hawai`I at Manoa and Dr. Poranee Natadecha-Sponsel, Religious Studies, Chaminade University of Honolulu.
