HONOLULU—October 3, 2007—Chaminade University’s Performing Arts Department will present Samuel Beckett’s play “Waiting for Godot” and Eugene Ionesco’s two one-act plays “The Bald Soprano” and “The Lesson,” on alternate days from Nov. 2 to 11 in the Black Box Theater, Chaminade University, 3140 Waialae Avenue, Freitas Hall 101.   • “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett opens on Nov. 2, at 7:30 p.m. and repeats Nov. 6, 8 and 10, and on Nov. 4 at 3 p.m. A tragic comedy in two acts, “Waiting for Godot” is one of Samuel Beckett’s best known works and is part of the Theatre of the Absurd. Beckett originally wrote the play in French and then translated it into English. Its world premiere was in Paris in 1953.
  •  “'The Bald Soprano' and 'The Lesson'” by Eugene Ionesco opens on Nov. 3 at 7:30 p.m. and repeats Nov. 5, 7 and 9, and on Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. Ionesco, generally considered the ‘father’ of the Theater of the Absurd is one of the great innovators of the modern stage.  He wrote "The Bald Soprano" in 1948 and "The Lesson" in 1950. All his works are simultaneously comic and tragic, focusing on the absurdities of day-to-day life.
