The Performing Arts Program at Chaminade University of Honolulu will present GODSPELL this spring with its own Hawaiian style Jesus and disciples. The musical based on the gospel of Saint Matthew first opened more than 30 years ago off-Broadway and went on to win a Grammy Award for Best Score. The local Chaminade version will have all the familiar songs, including “Day by Day” and “All Good Gifts,” but will feature Jesus as a Hawaii lifeguard with his disciples called from among surfers, skateboarders, beach boys, the homeless and tourists. And where else better to post rescue efforts in Hawaii but the beach? – The beach at Mamiya Theater, that is. Performance times are Thurs., April 7, Fri., April 8, & Sat., April 9 at 7:30 p.m., and Sun., April 10, at 4 p.m.
