Maui Kamehameha Teachers Graduates Celebrate Chaminade Online Partnership

Without ever stepping foot on an airplane, or languishing in long airport security lines, 19 Kamehameha teachers from the Maui campus have earned their Masters in Education degree from Chaminade University of Honolulu. Graduates of the first online partnership between Kamehameha Schools and Chaminade University will celebrate this Saturday, Feb. 19, 10:30 am at the Kamehameha Schools Maui campus, in the first ever video conferral of degrees.

Chaminade President Sue Wesselkamper has prepared a video greeting to the graduates, officially conferring the degrees and thanking Dr. Rodney Chamberlain, Headmaster of Kamehameha Schools Maui. Attending the ceremony from Chaminade are the director of graduate services Dr. Michael Fassiotto and Dean of Education, Dr. Rosemary Wolf. President Wesselkamper could not attend the ceremony due to a scheduling conflict with the University's board of regents meeting, but says the video message is somewhat appropriate for this online program.

"The beauty of this program, is that these Maui teachers can advance their careers with the help of technology and a solid partnership,” Wesselkamper said. “This program is not only convenient, but it offers students the best of both worlds.....some of the best of Kamehameha educators and the teaching from some of Chaminade's best teachers."

“We appreciate the flexibility and academic rigor of this Masters of Education program provided by Chaminade University to this cohort faculty,” said Chamberlain. “And the results speak for themselves: 19 of the 20 members have completed the program on time; this group has a fuller, deeper, and more comprehensive understanding of the nature of K-12 education because they have worked together for the past 2 years; and, we are seeing the faculty leadership that emerges when teachers are given the chance to grow professionally without lots of logistical hurdles. We look to future collaborations with Chaminade.”
