Undergraduate students will share information on health-education and career topics through poster presentations and brochures. The fair is the culmination of the program Science, Service, Medicine and Mentoring (S2M2) provided through Chaminade University and its partnership with Dr. Cynthia Macri, program developer and Vice President for Recruitment and Diversity at the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences. The five-day program (January 3-7) is rich with nationally recognized speakers, professional development workshops and hands on activities including shadowing of physicians at Tripler Army Medical Center and the Navy Environmental and Preventive Medicine Unit at Naval Station Pearl Harbor.
The vision of the S2M2 program is to cultivate the next generation of top quality, culturally competent, academic physicians and scientists. The program’s mission is to: 1) Encourage, nurture and enhance the commitment to science and medicine in welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment for groups of diverse college undergraduates; 2) Develop leadership, teaching and mentoring skills; and 3) Provide long term mentoring an learning opportunities to students interested in pursuing a career in science and service in the context of military medicine.
