Chaminade University of Honolulu will celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., with a special campus performance featuring concert saxophonist Dr. Willie Morris from the University of Dayton, together with the Chaminade University Chorus, and Hawai’i Vocal Arts Ensemble (H.V.A.E.) on Sunday, January 16, at 4:00 p.m. in the Mystical Rose Oratory. Enjoy gospel music, spirituals and music by African-American composers combined with the words of Dr. King. Also Chaminade professor and renowned poet Allison Francis will add her poetry to the entwining of music and words. The event is open to the public. Saxophonist extraordinaire, Dr. Morris has performed at the 1997 World Saxophone Congress in Valencia, Spain and at the 1996 and 1998 North American Saxophone Alliance National Conference, as well as other regional conferences. An active performer, educator and clinician, Morris is a nationally recognized soloist. At the University of Dayton, Dr. Morris teaches saxophone performance and is the director of the Dayton Jazz Ensemble. He also serves as the university's Associate Director of Athlete Bands and coordinates Jazz Studies.
