Campus Wows Students With New Center

Honolulu, HI – August 23, 2005--This week when Chaminade University students returned to campus, they discovered a million dollar student center waiting for them. Students and Chaminade officials will open the center on August 24, from 12 to 1 p.m., in Freitas Hall. The Vi and Paul Loo Student Center and adjacent Brothers’ Brew Café was designed by students, for students, lead by interior design professor Deborah Lowry. Thanks to a generous gift from benefactors Vi and Paul Loo, students will find a new hub of activity, located in the newly renovated wing of Freitas Hall, formerly the Marianists living area.

An ideal place to study, grind, or hangout, the new student center is especially convenient for local students who juggle long commutes with jobs, classes and studies. Previously, students gathered at an outdoor courtyard with picnic benches and tents. Now they can chill out in an air-conditioned center featuring all the comforts of home; a 57” plasma screen television, video projector, five Internet connection ports, in-house sound and lighting system, DVD/CD and VCR players, lockers, pool table, foosball table, wireless connection access, a closet filled with games and play equipment, and air-conditioning.

Recently Chaminade has spent more than $3 million in renovations across campus including the addition of the Jean E. Rolles Sculpture Garden, the expansion of the ceramics lab, the addition of seven new science faculty offices, two new science laboratories, new student service offices, faculty and administrative offices, and the addition of a campus ministry center.

Celebrating 50 years of educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University offers a liberal arts curriculum with day, evening, online and accelerated courses. The main campus is located in Kaimuki at 3140 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816, with 10 satellite locations around Oahu military bases and Catholic parishes and schools.
