Chaminade University Hires New Education Chair

HONOLULU, Hawaii, May 30, 2003---Chaminade University of Honolulu President Sue Wesselkamper has named east coast educator Rosemary F. Wolfe, Ph.D. to chair the undergraduate Education Program and serve as director of the Masters in Education Program. With 25 years of professional experience in teaching and administration in post secondary education, Dr. Wolfe comes to Hawaii after serving as the U.S. Department of Education program specialists overseeing Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE) in Washington D.C..

Dr. Wolfe will oversee xxx faculty and staff responsible for Chaminade’s education programs which offer state licensure programs in elementary, secondary and special education.

Considered one of the premier teaching schools in the state, Chaminade University produces the second highest number of teachers in Hawaii, offers the state’s only accredited program for Montessori education with an on-campus lab, and is the first local university to offer the Masters of Education online.

As an educator at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland for more than two decades, Dr. Wolfe helped pioneer the college’s first online courses in early childhood education and collaborated with county public schools and universities to create innovative funding programs.

Dr. Wolfe was actively involved in the teaching community, winning the Governor’s Teaching Excellence Award and Maryland’s Higher Education Outstanding Educator of the Year Award. She earned her Ph. D. in secondary education from the University of Maryland and served as a postdoctoral visiting scholar at the University of Pennsylvania.
