CHAMINADE GIVES DOUBLE THANKS -- Local dentist gives $1 million capital gift to nursing center--
Chaminade University announced today that Dr. Lawrence Tseu, a successful Hawaii dentist for more than 44 years, has pledged a capital gift of $1 million towards its center for nurse education within its school of nursing, which consists of dedicated facilities for operation of the nursing program. The university is preparing to introduce its new Bachelor’s of Science degree in nursing next fall 2010, upon approval by the Hawaii State Board of Nursing, as its latest offering in its expanding Division of Natural Sciences and Mathematics led by its dean, Dr. Helen Turner. The center will be named the DR. LAWRENCE AND BOHING CHAN TSEU CENTER FOR NURSE EDUCATION. The name honors his late wife BoHing Chan Tseu. “I am giving this gift to honor my wife and to show my appreciation for the nurses who cared for my wife in her final days,” said Dr. Tseu, who is a member of Chaminade’s board of regents. “They took care of her with such kindness.”“We were touched by the love and commitment Dr. Tseu had for his wife and his gratitude for nurses. We are most thankful that Chaminade will benefit from that gratitude and hope to be good stewards of his generosity,” said Dr. Stephanie Genz, associate dean of nursing. “His gift will be used to retrofit and enhance newly completed facilities, including state of the art nursing skills laboratories, and a sophisticated simulation suite equipped with high-fidelity, life-like human patient simulators. This facility will be instrumental in educating quality nurses who care for the whole patient in mind, body and spirit.”Celebrating more than 50 years of educating students for life, service and successful careers, Chaminade University offers programs of study grounded in the liberal arts with day, evening, online and accelerated courses. The main campus is located in Kaimuki at 3140 Waialae Ave., Honolulu, HI 96816, with 10 satellite locations around Oahu military bases and Catholic parishes and schools.
