Overview

Papakolea is a Native Hawaiian Homestead community near Punchbowl. Its community center features a commercial kitchen, a gym, facilites for hula, mixed martial arts, and classes of all types. They would really like to 'save' the library and the computer learning center inside their community hall, by ensuring that it is being used - and being used properly. There are now middle schoolers and high-schoolers who are coming in to use the computers. Papakolea would like to have our students in the room to be sure that the kids are prioritizing homework and to offer the kids help in completing it. The kids will be allowed to 'play' on the computers thereafter, and our students will be expected to provide assistance and oversight.

THIS project is open to general service-learning students. Nursing students in NUR291 and BIO304 are participating in other special projects to promote health education, nutrition, and sustainability.
