Following a Star Bulletin feature on Project SHINE (Students Helping in Naturalization of Elders), the program trained seven new student leaders and welcomed two new partner campuses. Chaminade, UH Manoa, and KCC will be joined by HPU and HCC in their efforts to engage college students as tutors for immigrant elders. The demand from our learners is consistently high, so we can use all the help we can get.
Student Leaders shared the benefits of SHINE in classrooms, helping faculty recruit thirty new Chaminade tutors. Some also reached a wider audience by presenting at our Service-Learning Day, at the Statewide Service-Learning Conference, and at the 9th Annual Continuums of Service Conference in Washington.
