The March 2nd 2007 Service-Learning Day was a smashing success! Many different community partners and Chaminade students showcased their programs and Service-Learning projects to many of the curious Chaminade students and faculty who came by the Ching Conference Center.
The day began with a beautiful opening chant done by the amazing Marcia Bulosan and prayer done by Brother Jerry Bommer. After that, students were free to roam the conference center and engage the students and community partners presenting their Service-Learning with questions and comments.
Also present at Service-Learning Day was the Eastside Grill, providing free delicious food. Students who attended Service-Learning Day and filled out a short questionnaire were also rewarded with a free, highly fashionable T-Shirt commemorating Service-Learning Day. “It’s my new favorite shirt!” says excited freshman student, David Carvalho.
Some of the Service-Learning projects that were on display included Project SHINE, Palolo Elementary Tutoring, MAAC, Bro. Tom Spring’s call for 50,000 community service hours, the FAFSA Project at Kaimuki High school, and Jarrett Middle School Campus Beautification. Students interested in showcasing their Service-Learning Projects should contact Candice Sakuda in the Service-Learning office to find out about more opportunities to present.
The Service-Learning office would also like to thank CSGA, Rotaract, The Gay Straight Alliance, and John Nakasone for volunteering their valuable to time to help make Service-Learning Day a success!
