Doesn't Everyone Finish College in Four Years?

Increasingly, across the nation, students are spending more than 4 years in college to finish a degree. College costs can rise dramatically if a student is unable to complete a degree program on time.

Why is extra planning necessary to finish in four years? Colleges, especially large state universities, often do not have individual degree requirements in mind when assembling semester schedules. For example, a student may be ready to take a class for a degree program, but it is not offered that semester. Sometimes they must wait an entire year to take a required course in sequence.

Chaminade takes steps: Chaminade has systematically addressed this problem in order that all students may graduate in 4 years. Many parents have expressed enthusiasm over Chaminade's 4-year plan system.

What does Chaminade do differently? Our Academic Advising Office works closely with our registrar, deans, and faculty advisors to create semester schedules that work for every student. We publish 4-year plans for every major so all students and advisors have a game plan. Most colleges do not offer this level of planning.

What if the student has not decided on a major? Our Academic Advising Office, and also our Career Services staff, work closely with all undeclared majors to make sure they have a major that makes sense for them by the end of their freshman year.
