Scholarships at Chaminade (University-funded)

Freshman Grants

These grants are automatic with admittance to our full time, undergraduate program, Simply apply to the University, no additional paperwork is required. These institutional grants are given in addition to any aid based on financial need. These scholarships are renewed each year for a 4 years. For more details, see Eligibility below.

Leadership Grant
Criteria: Cumulative High School GPA of 2.5-2.99
Award Amount: $4500 per year or $18,000 over 4 years

Father Chaminade Grant
Criteria: Cumulative High School GPA of 2.25-2.49
Award Amount: $3000 per year or $12,000 over 4 years

Transfer Scholarships and Grant Programs

Transfer Grants:
Criteria: A GPA from previous colleges of at least 2.50 and admission to the university
Amount: $4,000 per year

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarships
Criteria: Admission to the University, cumulative GPA from previous colleges of at least 2.75, completion of 24 semester hours, documentation of PTK membership, and working towards first bachelor's degree. This scholarship can be awarded in addition to a Transfer Grant (see above.)
Amount: $1,000 per year

Athletic Scholarships

SPORTS:

Scholarships are available for these NCAA II Sports:
Men's basketball, cross country, golf, soccer.
Women's basketball, cross country, soccer, softball, tennis, volleyball.

$2500 to Hawaii Scholar-Athletes:
If you are a Hawaii resident (graduating from a high school in Hawaii) and have a good academic record, you may qualify for the Hawaii Scholar-Athlete scholarship. To be eligible, students need to have a minimum GPA of 2.75 and an SAT of 900 (ACT 19). The scholarship is $2500 every year for 4 years. Scholarships are awarded by the respective coach of each team for the sports listed below. The number of scholarships is limited, if you are interested contact the admissions office soon at (808) 739-8340. Available for Men's and Women's Soccer, Men's and Women's Cross Country, Women's Basketball, Women's Softball, Women's Tennis, and Men's Golf.

Catholic, Parish, and Marianist Leadership Scholarships

If you are Catholic, you may be eligible for one of these scholarships. These University-funded scholarships are renewable every year until degree completion. These scholarships have limited availability - apply early!

Academic criteria:

  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
  • A combined SAT score of 900 or higher in critical reading & math, or an ACT composite score of 19 or higher.
  • You must be a new student who has never attended another college or university.

Catholic Scholarship / Hawaii: 50% Off Tuition
In addition to the academic requirements:

  • You must be a graduate of a Hawaii Catholic school.
  • You must be nominated by the school principal, based on your academic potential and involvement in school, church, and community.

Parish Scholarship / Hawaii: 50% off Tuition
In addition to the academic requirements:

  • You must be nominated by a Hawaii Catholic parish priest, based on your involvement with the church and community.

Marianist Leadership Scholarship: 75% off Tuition
In addition to the academic requirements:

  • You must be a graduate of a Marianist High School (global)
  • You must be nominated by your high school principal, based on your academic potential and involvement in school, church and community.
  • While at Chaminade, complete 20 hours of community service per academic semester.

Founders Service and Leadership Award

Funds for this award are provided by the Society of Mary. The deadline to submit an application and the necessary documentation is March 1 for the consideration for the next academic year. This scholarship is not subject to the "One Highest Award" rule, and may be provided in addition to a merit based scholarship.

There are two categories of grants, awarded to:

Statue of Mary
  • Incoming, first-year students from Catholic high schools (Category A)
  • Chaminade students who are completing their first year (Category B)

Category A

Eligibility Requirements:

The applicant must:

  • Be a graduate of a Catholic high school
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from their high school principal
  • Submit a letter of recommendation from their high school campus minister or service coordinator
  • Be willing to be involved in at least one campus ministry program, one regular student activity, and one form of service during their first two semesters at CUH
  • Have a financial need as demonstrated by the Financial Aid Questionnaire

Award Amount: $3,000 per academic year, ($1,500 per semester.) This award is renewable for 3 years. Recipients will be mentored by one of the campus ministers. An annual review of the recipient's participation in this service/leadership program by the mentoring campus minister will determine the renewal of the grant.

Category B

Eligibility Requirements:

The applicant must:

  • Have completed their first year (at least 24 credits) at CUH
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.5
  • Be recommended by a campus minister / service coordinator
  • Be willing to be involved in at least one campus ministry program, one regular student activity, and one form of service during the academic year at CUH
  • Write an essay describing what the student has done and plans to do as a recipient of this grant and how those actions are congruent with the Marianist and Catholic traditions at CUH

Award Amount: $3,000 per academic year, ($1,500 per semester.) This award is renewable for the junior and senior years. Recipients will be mentored by one of the campus ministers. An annual review of the recipient's participation in this service/leadership program by the mentoring campus minister will determine the renewal of the grant.

These scholarships and grants apply to all U.S. Citizens and U.S. Nationals who are full-time undergraduate program students. Scholarship programs are reviewed yearly and are subject to change without notice.

Other Scholarships

Our "Endowed and Restricted" category of scholarships are from funds provided by contributions from private donors, with eligibility criteria set forth by the donor. Award amounts vary each year, but generally range from $500 to $2000 per year.

Additional University-funded awards include the Miss Hawaii, Miss Hawaii Filipina, and History Day scholarships.

Eligibility & Other Details:

Priority consideration will be given to applications received by May 1.

Please note, if the scholarship is not solely based on GPA, you must file a FAFSA to be considered. It is recommended that you file a FAFSA before March 1.

GPA calculations: You will receive confirmation of your scholarship with acceptance to Chaminade, and if the scholarship is based on a GPA, the amount will be based on your known high school GPA. The award amount will be finalized when Chaminade gets a record of your cumulative high school GPA upon graduation.

These scholarships and grants apply to all U.S. Citizens and U.S. Nationals who are full-time undergraduate day program students. Students will receive the one best university-funded award for which they are eligible. Scholarship programs are reviewed yearly and are subject to change without notice.
