Chaminade is a Native Hawaiian Serving Institution.

As a Native Hawaiian serving institution, we are proud to offer scholarships to students of Native Hawaiian ancestry. Residents of Hawaiian Homelands and students attending Hawaiian language immersion schools may be eligible for the scholarships listed below.

Hawaiian Homelands Scholarship

The Department of Hawaiian Home Lands Opportunity Award is an institutional scholarship awarded to new first-year students or transfers. This generous award is renewable for a maximum of four years provided the student remains in good academic standing.

Eligibility:

Applicant must be:

  • A new incoming first-year or transfer student.
  • A dependent of a current resident who holds a lease to a Hawaiian Home Lands property.
  • Nominated by their Hawaiian Homestead Association President (includes a letter or recommendation).
  • A United States citizen.
  • A high school graduate admitted to Chaminade as an unconditional or conditional first year student with a cumulative high school GPA of at least 2.25, or, a prior college cumulative GPA of 2.50 for transfer students.
  • Charged the maximum day-student tuition for the academic year.

Awardees must

  • Complete 20 hours of community service per academic semester (40 hours per year) while attending Chaminade.

Deadline:

Students must apply for this scholarship prior to first enrolling in classes at Chaminade University.


Hawaiian-focused Charter Schools Scholarship

The Hawaiian-focused Charter Schools Scholarship is an institutional scholarship awarded to new first-year students or transfers who graduated from a Hawaiian-focused Charter School . This generous award is renewable for a maximum of four years provided the student remains in good academic standing.

  • A graduate of a Hawaiian-focused charter school.
  • Nominated by their charter school principal with letter of recommendation.
  • Charged the maximum day-student tuition for the academic year.

Awardees must

  • Complete 20 hours of community service per academic semester (40 hours per year) while attending Chaminade.

Deadline:

Students must apply for this scholarship prior to first enrolling in classes at Chaminade University.


Hawaiian Language Immersion School Scholarship

The Hawaiian Language Immersion School Scholarship is an institutional scholarship awarded to new first-year students or transfers. Students must be nominated by their immersion school principal. This generous award is renewable for a maximum of four years provided the student remains in good academic standing.

Office of Native Hawaiian Partnerships Merit Award

Available for 2015-2016 Enrollment
(New incoming students enrolling in classes beginning August 2015 and thereafter)

The Office of Native Hawaiian Partnerships Merit Award is a generous institutional scholarship awarded to new incoming first-year or transfer students of Native Hawaiian descent. Students must demonstrate academic accomplishments, leadership experiences and involvement in community service to be considered for this award.

Eligibility
Applicant must be:

  • A new incoming first-year or transfer student
  • Of Hawaiian descent and a U.S. citizen residing in Hawai’I, the U.S. continent or U.S. Territories
  • Meet academic requriments:
    • First-year students: high school graduate with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and SAT score of at least 920 or ACT of 19
    • Transfer students: cumulative college GPA of 2.50
  • Accepted to Chaminade as a regular full-time, day undergraduate

To maintain eligibility, applicants must:

  • Remain in good academic standing
  • Complete twenty (20) hours of community service each semester (40 hours per year).  Prior approval for community service activities from the Office of Native Hawaiian Partnershps is required.

Spring Enrollment: December 1
