A five week summer immersion experience in Bangalore India during which students will explore the culture and social problems associated with this developing nation. Students will be hosted by the local Marianist community. Participants will live with a poor family in a neighboring village as part of their experience. Students will have volunteer opportunities working with non-governmental agencies, which serve the poor. During the last week of the immersion, students will attend a retreat where they will have an opportunity to reflect upon their experiences.
Applicants for the Summer Experience must have be a full time Chaminade student, rising junior, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0, have a declared major, be in good health, and provide two letters of recommendation. Applications may be obtained from the campus ministry office in Clarence T.C. Ching Hall, Room 105.
Cost: Each recipient will receive round trip travel to India and program expenses from the Jhamandas Watamull Fund. Students are expected to contribute about 10% or $350 toward program costs.
