Physics

Eric Dodson Professor Dodson joined Chaminade in 2010 as a lecturer in Physics, after a decade as a highly regarded physics faculty member at the University of Hawaii. Prior to entering college, Professor Dodson served in the US Army as a Multichannel-Communications Equipment Operator. During his undergraduate studies in Physics at UC Davis, he joined the US Navy and signed on with the NUPOC (Nuclear Propulsion Officer Candidate) program where upon completion of his Bachelors degree he would (after an extensive training period) serve as an instructor at Naval Nuclear Power School in Orlando Florida, where officers and sailors are trained to run nuclear reactors. It was during this period that Professor Dodson developed a love for teaching, and found it especially rewarding to spend extra time with students who were struggling. Professor Dodson taught in the Enlisted Mathematics department, Electronic Theory for Reactor Operators, and in the Officer Math and Physics Department. During this time he was selected as officer instructor of the year, served as the director of the department and was recognized with the Navy Commendation Medal. Returning to graduate school, Professor Dodson studied studying chiral liquid crystals in confined geometries with Professor Peter Crooker at the University of Hawaii. He was hired as a lecturer at the University of Hawaii and specialized in teaching freshman physics. At Chaminade, Professor Dodson has been responsible, with colleague Dr Matthew Cochran, for the revitalization of our physics program. The year 2010 saw new the equipping of new laboratory spaces, revamping of courses and the adoption of extensive new technology in our physics classes.
