Leadership

Learning, leadership and service are at the core of the Catholic and Marianist institution. Here at Chaminade, we offer a diversity of opportunities that will further your holistic development. By seeking out leadership experiences, you will gain valuable knowledge and skills that will prepare you for post-college life and professional career. Moreover, you will make a positive impact and provide beneficial contributions to Chaminade University and the greater community.

Leadership Trainings
As a leader of a recognized student group you will have the opportunity to attend various trainings and workshops to help you develop your leadership skills. We believe that leadership is process, not a position and so we encourage and affirm that you have everything it takes to become the best leader you can be. Leadership trainings will take place throughout the year and with the help of our staff and student leaders we believe you will fulfill the holistic development to make sure that we have the best of times here at Chaminade.

House of Representative Workshops
A variety of workshops are available for registered student organizations to receive up-to-date information on registration, budget accounts, event planning, fundraising opportunities and so forth. Various workshops are mandatory, and require participation by at least one member of each organization. Involvement will foster organizational management skills, promote understanding of University mission and policies, and assist clubs with accomplishing their semester goals. Check with both the OSAL office and your Student Government for dates and times.

Our trainings will cover topics such as:

  • Team Building
  • Self and team assessment
  • Diversity training:
    • Oppression 101 training
    • Understanding Privilege
    • Musicality and Hip Hop
    • And more...
  • Organizational management
    • Running effective meetings
    • The art of delegation
    • Group communication
    • Creating productivity
    • Challenging your group
    • Building team morale
  • Knowledge of University Goals and the role that student groups play in achieving them
    • The Marianist characteristics and your student groups

Our training/workshop goals are to: (1) create team building; (2) self-understanding of leadership style/skills; (3) awareness/practice with organizational management (e.g., running effective meetings, delegation, communication, etc.); (4) knowledge of University goals/direction for the current semester; (5) diversity training; and (6) time for each organization to meet and plan for the current semester. Co-Curricular Awards Night
At the end of each academic year, we gather all student leaders at a recognition dinner to celebrate individual and organizational accomplishments.

OSAL Student Coordinators

Office Assistants help with the design, planning, implementation and assessment of co-curricular and extra-curricular programs at Chaminade University. Working with OSAL staff, the Assistants provide support to new and on-going programs. To get an application or learn more about the positions, contact OSAL.

Primary duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Serving as a lead coordinator for campus community events, projects, programs such as Pacific Island Review and International Extravaganza, breakaways, awareness activities and so forth.
  • Creation of new co-curricular and extra-curricular programs, based on student interests, as needed.
  • Assist in the designing and marketing of OSAL services, resources, programs, and activities calendar to encourage participation.
  • Serve as the OSAL liaison with selected campus groups including, but not limited to Campus Ministry, Student Support Services, AAP, Career Services, Residence Life, RHA, CSPB, Clubs and Organizations.
  • Participate in training and staff development with other members of OSAL.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Vi and Paul Loo Student Center Program Coordinator
Student Assistants provide support in the Vi and Paul Loo Student Center and to OSAL staff members with co-curricular and extra-curricular programs at Chaminade University. To get an application or learn more about the positions, contact OSAL.

Primary duties and responsibilities may include:

  • Serve as an office assistant, event assistant and/or equipment room manager.
  • Assist co-curricular and extra-curricular programs, including but not limited to recreational and intramural sports program, special projects/events, and bulletin board program.
  • Provide office support, including but not limited to filing, typing, data entry, customer service, answer phones, making flyers for events, keep track of inventory, provide information to people, clean office weekly, and other tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Participate in training and staff meetings with other members of OSAL.
  • Other duties as assigned.
